Yoga Studio

“The body benefits from movement, and the mind benefits from stillness.”

-Sakyong Mipham

Welcome to the Yoga Studio at Pursue Wellness!

The roots of yoga can be traced back to over to 5,000 years ago.

The word yoga comes from the Sanskrit word yuj, which means “union” or “to yoke”. This refers to the practice of yoga as a methodology to unite body, mind and spirit. The practice of postures, breathing, concentration, sensory withdrawl and meditation help lead us to a unified state of awareness and improved vitality.

Modern science is discovering what the ancient yogi’s intuitively knew. The benefits of a regular yoga practice are being recognized by the scientific community to have benefits such as:

      • Improved self-regulation and resilience to stress. This is being found to reduce the impact of stress on our nervous system and can lower blood pressure, reduce feeling of anxiety and depression, and improve relationship with ourselves and others.
      • Yoga helps regulate the endocrine and digestive system.
      • Breathing practices, postures and contemplative practices associated with yoga strengthen and  balance the nervous system
      • Improved cognitive function and concentration.
      • Increases physical balance, strength, flexibility, coordination in activites associated with everyday living as well as athletic performance.
      • Reduces inflammation.

We are committed to helping you develop a consistent yoga practice, whether that means committing to one class a week or incorporating yoga, mindfulness and meditation into your daily life.

We are also excited to have the first Great Yoga Wall in the area to allow you to advance your practice of yoga and correct underlying imbalances that manifest as injuries and chronic pain. Book a class today!

Our classes are alignment-based using props and The Great Yoga Wall. The wall can be an important tool for advancing your practice, correcting underlying muscular skeletal imbalances, cultivating strength, stability and flexibility. By using gravity as a natural form of resistance, the yoga wall allows you to safely create space and release tension. It is exceptionally beneficial for spinal health. Using the straps provides traction and decompression of the spine. All levels.

Yoga with a Pen

Thursday, April 25th

This playful 90-minute workshop centered around the theme of “Inciting Joy,” a phrase used by the poet Ross Gay, combines the restorative benefits of expressive, narrative writing with a gentle yoga practice. Grounded in the research about the relationship between writing and wellness described in Louise DeSalvo’s Writing as a Way of Healing: How Telling Our Stories Transforms Our Lives, this workshop will offer a series of writing prompts with short yoga sequences in between each one. We will close our workshop with an optional meditative listening practice called dyad listening, a safe and supportive way of sharing one’s writing for those who want to. Come jumpstart your creativity and discover (or rediscover) the restorative power of expressive writing. No writing experience necessary, and no pressure to share any of your writing if you don’t want to. A packet of resources and additional writing invitations will be provided to support your on-going writing/journaling practice.
